Targets and numbers are non-negotiable
Sales CVs are judged almost entirely on numbers: how much you sold, by what percentage you beat target, your conversion rate, and your average transaction value. If you do not currently track these figures, ask a manager or check any sales dashboards you have access to before writing your CV, since vague sales CVs are one of the weakest categories recruiters see.
Comparing yourself to a benchmark
Numbers are far more persuasive with context. '34% conversion rate' is good, but '34% conversion rate against a store average of 26%' proves you outperformed your peers, which is a much stronger signal to a hiring manager.
Product knowledge and specialisms
If you have deep knowledge of a specific product category, such as electronics, homeware, fashion or automotive, mention it explicitly, since many retail employers hire specifically to fill a gap in category expertise.
Frequently asked questions
What if my store does not track individual targets?
Use team-level results you contributed to, or describe consistent recognition, such as being asked to train others or being given more responsibility over time.
Should I include currency figures?
Yes, but always specify the currency clearly (for example AUD, USD, GBP) since sales CVs are often reviewed internationally.
Is retail experience relevant for a non-retail sales role?
Yes, conversion rate, upselling and target achievement are transferable skills valued in most sales environments, including B2B and telesales.
